Position Overview
The Lead Product Owner – Software Products serves as the central link between product development engineering, field support, and customers for an established software product. This seasoned product leader drives problem resolution, manages change requests, owns user acceptance testing, and channels customer and field feedback into product improvements that expand adoption and deliver measurable business value. This position is based out of Chicago, IL in a hybrid work model (currently 2 days per week in office; in-office days may increase in the future).
Key Responsibilities
Partner with product development engineers to track and communicate design, development, support, and maintenance issues and their solutions.
Identify, document, and report design, reliability, and maintenance problems and bugs; gather and consolidate feedback from customers and field staff.
Collaborate with field support specialists and customers to resolve problems and expand product usage.
Serve as a go-to resource for customer and field support questions, providing guidance on product integration and infrastructure issues.
Own the end-to-end software change request process — evaluating requests from customers, prospects, vendors, and internal staff, and defining scope, cost, risk, resources, and status.
Lead user acceptance testing efforts, including test strategy, acceptance criteria, and evaluation of UAT plans for completeness.

Qualifications
10+ years of experience as a Lead Product Owner
Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required
Required Technical Skills & Competencies
Software Product Business Knowledge (Extensive): Deep command of a software product's advanced features, install base, and product vision; maintains functional requirements, supports major installations and customizations, and contributes to sales opportunities.
Software Change Request Management (Extensive): Estimates fulfillment costs, defines responses for non-standard or unsupported requests, and helps design request process flows and templates; researches tools for monitoring product efficacy.
User Acceptance Testing (Extensive): Familiarity with major acceptance testing frameworks; develops testing approaches aligned with legal or contractual agreements and guides end users in defining test environments.
Decision Making & Critical Thinking (Extensive): Objectively evaluates assumptions and alternatives, predicts the impact of decision options, and applies consultative, command, or consensus approaches as appropriate.
Effective Communications (Extensive): Communicates clearly upward, downward, and outward; tailors documents and presentations to the audience, coaches others on their writing, and balances empathy with assertiveness.
Business Analysis (Working Knowledge): Identifies business needs, documents business cases to justify time and resources, and recommends solutions that deliver stakeholder value.
Software Engineering (Working Knowledge): Understands software development methodologies, design practices, and considerations for integrating products across multiple platforms and systems.
Software Problem Management (Working Knowledge): Applies problem reporting, resolution, and escalation procedures, including issues that involve other products or vendors.
