Assembly Technician
Department: Production
Location: Lewisville, TX
Reports To: Team Lead
Overview
Moonshot Electronics is seeking detail-oriented, mechanically inclined Assembly Technicians to help build high-quality electrical power distribution equipment, including switchboards and panelboards. In this hands-on role, you'll assemble electrical components, interpret technical drawings, and help ensure our products meet demanding quality and safety standards. Whether you're beginning your career in manufacturing or bring years of specialized electrical assembly experience, we offer opportunities to develop your skills, take on increasingly complex projects, and grow within our production team. We value individuals who take ownership of their work, collaborate to solve problems, and continuously look for ways to improve.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Assembly & Production: Assemble UL 891 switchboards, UL 67 panelboards, and related electrical power distribution equipment according to blueprints, technical drawings, work instructions, and production specifications. Mount circuit breakers, meters, electrical devices, and other components into structural frames and enclosures.
Busbar Installation & Fabrication: Assist with or independently perform copper and aluminum busbar installation, including bending, drilling, joint preparation, fastening, and torqueing to specification, based on experience and demonstrated proficiency.
Blueprint Interpretation & Technical Accuracy: Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and assembly instructions to ensure proper component placement and installation. More experienced technicians may interpret complex drawing packages, tolerances, sheet-metal flat patterns, and GD&T requirements.
Quality & Workmanship: Perform visual inspections, verify component placement and hardware specifications, and use calibrated torque tools to ensure accurate assembly. Complete required in-process checks, document results where applicable, and present completed work for independent quality verification.
Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution: Identify and communicate material shortages, drawing discrepancies, assembly defects, and other production challenges. Experienced technicians may perform complex rework, troubleshoot non-standard assemblies, assist with root cause analysis, and collaborate with Engineering and Quality to resolve technical issues.
Safety & Compliance: Follow established safety procedures, PPE requirements, 6S workplace organization standards, and applicable NEC, OSHA, UL 891, and UL 67 requirements. Safely operate hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and other assembly equipment while maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
Teamwork, Training & Development: Collaborate with Team Leads, Engineering, Quality, and fellow technicians to achieve production and quality goals. Experienced technicians may mentor newer team members, support technical training and certification, and perform independent workmanship inspections and approvals when formally authorized.
Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence: Identify opportunities to improve assembly processes, tooling, material flow, quality, and production efficiency. Advanced technicians may support first-article builds, tooling and fixture setup, calibration management, and implementation of process improvements.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in electrical technology, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
Previous experience in electrical assembly, panel building, mechanical assembly, or manufacturing is preferred but not required. Entry-level candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
Basic ability to read or learn to interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, dimensions, and assembly instructions. Experience with electrical schematics and more complex technical drawings is a plus.
Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, torque wrenches, and measuring instruments, with a commitment to using equipment safely and accurately.
Strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and the ability to follow technical instructions and established quality standards.
Ability to distinguish colors, measure and count accurately, stand for extended periods, and lift or move electrical components weighing up to 70 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Willingness to complete required safety, PPE, ESD, and job-specific training and certifications.
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced production environment while demonstrating accountability, dependability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
