Team Overview:
Export Development Canada’s Customer Analytics and Modelling team is part of Enterprise Analytics and Forecasting. The team helps EDC and its Marketing partners make informed, data-driven decisions by developing and maintaining trusted customer data, analytical products, dashboards, segmentation capabilities and predictive models.
The team’s work spans the customer data lifecycle—from sourcing and integrating data, through transformation and quality controls, to analysis, visualization and operational deployment. Its responsibilities include customer and prospect data management, marketing analytics, campaign measurement, data quality and governance, automation, application development, and the delivery of customer insights.
The Customer Data Analyst will support the continued modernization of Marketing’s data ecosystem. A key focus will be migrating and repointing existing data flows and analytical assets from legacy or decommissioned sources to EDC’s Enterprise Data Platform and Microsoft Fabric environment. The successful candidate will also develop and improve data applications, reports, dashboards and analytical solutions that help internal stakeholders better understand and engage Canadian exporters.
This role is well suited to someone who combines practical data engineering and analytics skills with curiosity, sound judgment and a strong interest in creative solution development. The successful candidate will be expected to learn EDC’s data ecosystem, work collaboratively across business and technical teams, troubleshoot complex data issues, and progressively take ownership of production-ready data solutions.
What you will be doing:
Develop, maintain and enhance data pipelines, data flows, datasets, semantic models and analytical assets that support customer analytics and Marketing.
Migrate and repoint existing data flows and reporting assets from legacy sources, including Denodo and spreadsheet-based processes, to the Enterprise Data Platform and Microsoft Fabric.
Analyze current data artefacts, business rules, calculations and dependencies to determine how they should be rebuilt or adapted when source systems, fields or logic change.
Develop and optimize curated datasets and semantic models for use in Power BI dashboards, analytical applications and advanced analytics.
Build, maintain and improve Power BI dashboards and reports that provide timely, reliable and actionable customer insights to internal stakeholders.
Use SQL, Python, R or comparable languages to acquire, transform, integrate, analyze and validate structured data from multiple sources.
Develop scripts, notebooks, utilities or lightweight applications that automate recurring processes, improve data accessibility or solve operational and analytical challenges.
Contribute to the deployment and operationalization of analytical applications and models through appropriate development and MLOps practices.
Troubleshoot data, refresh, integration and reporting issues; conduct root-cause analysis; and implement sustainable corrective actions.
Perform exploratory data analysis and data mining to identify customer behaviours, engagement patterns, preferences, segments and opportunities.
Support the preparation of customer and prospect data for campaign planning, targeting, personalization, measurement and reporting.
Apply data-quality checks, validation rules, documentation standards and governance requirements to customer and marketing data.
Support recurring operational processes, including data acquisition, vendor-data processing, data-quality monitoring and production reporting.
Document data sources, transformations, business rules, calculations, dependencies, controls and operating procedures.
Collaborate with Marketing, Enterprise Analytics and Forecasting, data platform teams, data governance partners, technology teams and other stakeholders to translate business needs into practical data solutions.
Communicate analytical findings, technical issues, recommendations and delivery progress clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Share knowledge, contribute to team standards and help strengthen backup coverage for critical data processes and analytical assets.
Identify opportunities to improve automation, reliability, scalability and efficiency across the customer data and analytics environment.
What we are looking for:
An undergraduate degree in computer science, data science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, business analytics, management information systems, marketing analytics or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Relevant experience developing, transforming, integrating or analyzing data in a business or production environment.
Practical experience writing SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, validation and analysis.
Practical programming experience with Python, R or a comparable language.
Experience developing reports, dashboards, datasets or data models using Power BI or a comparable business intelligence platform.
Experience working with data pipelines, extract-transform-load processes, data flows, data warehouses, data lakes or lakehouse environments.
Demonstrated ability to understand existing data assets and business logic and adapt them to new sources, platforms or requirements.
Experience investigating and resolving data-quality, integration, refresh or reporting issues.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with close attention to accuracy, controls and detail.
Ability to translate business requirements into clear technical tasks and fit-for-purpose data solutions.
Ability to explain technical concepts and analytical findings in clear business language.
Ability to manage priorities, work independently and contribute effectively within cross-functional teams.
A collaborative, accountable and customer-focused approach.
A willingness to learn unfamiliar systems, understand a complex data ecosystem and continuously develop technical and business knowledge.
What will make you stand out:
Experience with Microsoft Fabric, including lakehouses, data pipelines, data flows, notebooks or semantic models.
Experience with Microsoft Azure, Databricks, Spark or comparable cloud data technologies.
Experience designing, developing or supporting production data pipelines and reusable analytical data products.
Experience with application development, analytical utilities or process automation using Python, R, notebooks, Visual Basic or comparable tools.
Experience with Git-based development, deployment pipelines, DevOps or MLOps practices.
Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Salesforce Data Cloud/Data 360, Financial Services Cloud or the integration of Salesforce platforms with enterprise data environments.
Experience migrating reports, calculations or data processes from legacy technologies to modern cloud-based platforms.
Experience with customer analytics, marketing analytics, segmentation, campaign measurement, customer profiles or customer engagement data.
Knowledge of data governance, metadata, lineage, data-quality controls, privacy requirements or Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation.
Experience working with customer relationship management, marketing automation or customer data platforms.
A demonstrated ability to develop creative, practical and scalable solutions rather than relying only on established approaches.
Knowledge of EDC’s business, data environment or analytical practices.
Bilingualism in both of Canada’s official languages.
