Employment: Full-time
Experience: Mid-Senior level
Fuse Energy is an energy startup on a mission to make energy abundant and affordable, fast. We combine first-principles thinking with cutting-edge technology to build a radically better energy system.
We've raised over $200M from top-tier investors including Balderton, Lakestar, Accel, Creandum, Lowercarbon, Ribbit, 20VC, Hummingbird and Collaborative Fund, alongside strategic angels including Nico Rosberg and GPs behind Meta, Revolut, Spotify and Uber.
We're building a fully integrated energy company: developing our own solar, batteries and other generation projects, building our own hardware, improving and developing grid infrastructure, trading power in real time, using AI across the business, and installing distributed energy in homes. By selling directly to consumers we cut out the middleman, lower costs and pass the savings on to our customers.
The Electrical Engineering Lead owns all electrical engineering for Fuse’s EPC function, from design through testing, commissioning and energisation, across all of our infrastructure projects (Solar PV, BESS, Wind, Gas-Peak and Data Centres). You are the technical authority for HV and MV systems and lead the team that designs, builds, tests and energises them. You also hold one of the NERS authorisations that let Fuse carry out contestable grid connection works as an Independent Connections Provider (ICP), so every system we deliver is safe, compliant and accepted by the DNO.
Responsibilities
Electrical Leadership, Design to Energisation
Lead all electrical engineering for the EPC function, from early design through construction, commissioning and energisation
Act as the HV/MV subject matter expert across all infrastructure projects, covering substations, grid connections, transformers, switchgear, protection systems and cable networks
Set electrical design standards and make sure they are applied consistently across the portfolio
Review and approve electrical designs from internal engineers, design partners and consultants
Provide technical challenge to drive safe, compliant and cost-effective solutions
Team Leadership
Lead, develop and manage Electrical Design Engineers, Electrical Engineers, SAPs and Commissioning Engineers
Allocate resource across projects and make sure the right people are on the right stage of delivery
Build the competence of the team against NERS and DNO requirements
Raise the standard of design, safety and delivery across the function
NERS and ICP Compliance
Fulfil your NERS role within Fuse’s accreditation, in line with the NERS requirements
Make sure all works stay within Fuse’s accredited scope
Support NERS and DNO audits and close out findings
Maintain the technical records and evidence that accreditation relies on
Work with the other NERS role holders so the framework is covered end to end
Grid Connection and Standards
Lead technical review of grid connection agreements and compliance requirements
Ensure adherence to the UK Grid Code, DNO and TSO requirements, G99/G100 and relevant standards
Oversee and validate grid studies: fault level, load flow, protection coordination and harmonic analysis
Act as the technical interface with DNOs, TSOs and third-party ICPs
Construction, Testing and Commissioning
Lead HV and MV installation oversight, testing, commissioning and energisation
Witness and sign off key testing: substations, protection systems and grid connection works
Lead energisation planning and execution
Troubleshoot electrical issues during construction and early operation
Ensure as-built systems comply with approved designs and grid requirements
Delivery and Stakeholders
Respond to RFIs, TQs and design clarifications, and align design, procurement and construction
Support handover to Asset Management
Support technical due diligence and lender advisor requirements
Work closely with Development, Construction and Asset Management teams
Act as escalation point for complex electrical technical issues

Experience reviewing grid studies (load flow, fault level, protection coordination, power quality)
Hands-on HV commissioning, testing and energisation experience
Ability to challenge EPC and consultant designs with evidence
Strong command of electrical safety regulations and compliance frameworks
Experience on utility-scale Solar PV, BESS or grid infrastructure projects
