Employment: Full-time
Runware develops AI infrastructure and modular data centres. We are hiring a hands-on Fabricator (Prototyping) to turn engineering designs into working prototype hardware using CNC machining, automated welding and precision assembly.
This role is for someone who enjoys owning the engineering: performing the calculations, making consequential design decisions, producing the documentation needed to build equipment, and proving its performance through testing.
About the role
You will be the person who makes our next generation designs real. Working closely with mechanical and systems engineers, you will machine, weld and assemble prototype components, then help refine them through fast build-test-iterate cycles.
The work spans one-off parts to small pilot runs. You will own fabrication quality from raw stock to finished assembly, and your feedback on manufacturability will shape the next design revision.
Key responsibilities
Set up, program and operate CNC mills, lathes and other numerically controlled equipment from 2D drawings and 3D CAD models.
Program, set up and run automated and robotic welding cells (MIG/TIG), including fixture design and parameter tuning.
Assemble mechanical and electromechanical prototypes, sub-assemblies and test rigs to specification.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, weld symbols and bills of materials.
Inspect parts with calipers, micrometers, height gauges and other metrology tools; document results.
Build jigs, fixtures and tooling that speed up repeat fabrication.
Give engineers early feedback on manufacturability, tolerances, material choice and cost.
Maintain machines and tools, and keep the workshop safe, clean and organised. Track material usage and help manage stock, consumables and supplier orders. Follow health, safety and environmental rules for machining, welding and pressure work.
Requirements
Based in Bucharest or the Bucharest–Ilfov metropolitan area and able to work on-site.
3+ years of hands-on experience in fabrication, machining or a prototype workshop.
Proven experience with numerical control (NC) based fabrication and CNC machining, including G-code and CAM programming (e.g. Fusion 360, Mastercam, SolidCAM).
Experience setting up and running automated or robotic welding systems, plus solid manual MIG/TIG skills on steel, stainless steel and aluminium.
Experience assembling prototypes from drawings, including mechanical fit-up, fastening and basic electrical wiring.
Ability to read technical drawings, GD&T and weld symbols, and to work to tight tolerances.
Confident use of precision measuring tools and basic quality documentation.
Vocational or technical qualification in machining, welding or mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience.
Fluent Romanian and English (technical documentation is in English).
Nice to have
Experience fabricating components for high-pressure systems: piping, manifolds, vessels or fittings, including leak and pressure testing.
Experience with refrigeration or HVAC-R components: copper and stainless tubing, brazing, flaring and swaging, heat exchangers.
Familiarity with pressure equipment standards (e.g. PED 2014/68/EU, ASME) and ISCIR requirements in Romania.
Welder certification to ISO 9606 or equivalent; refrigerant handling (F-gas) certification.
CAD skills (SolidWorks, Fusion 360 or similar) to adjust parts and design fixtures.
Experience with sheet metal (laser or waterjet cutting, press brake) or additive manufacturing.
Experience in a startup or R&D environment with fast-changing priorities.
Benefits
Competitive salary
Real ownership: your builds go straight into prototypes and pilot hardware.
A modern workshop and budget for the tools the job needs.
Training and certification support (welding, pressure equipment, F-gas).
A small, technical team where your input changes the design.
Applications without a portfolio will not be considered.
