Employment: Full-Time
At ClearSpace, we believe in reusability, in affordability driving disruption, and that no progress is real unless it is sustainable.
Our company was founded in 2018 out of the realization that in-orbit servicing and space debris removal are vital services for the future of space exploration and operations. Today ClearSpace has assembled an expert engineering team and is leading the way toward sustainable space operations. From a garage in Switzerland, we now operate across UK and Europe, and are working with world-leading institutions and companies to bring our dream of a sustainable space ecosystem to life.
We are looking for an FDIR Engineer to join our team who will work on both our current missions and future projects.
The Role
The FDIR Engineer will, as part of the System team, be responsible for FDIR concept development for ClearSpace missions, providing input to mission development from the earliest stages, and ensuring implementation and verification of that concept in the latter stages.
Key responsibilities
Define , develop and maintain the spacecraft FDIR concept, architecture, and implementation strategy in collaboration with Systems, Software, Avionics, Operations, and PA/QA teams.
Derive, allocate, and manage spacecraft FDIR requirements and ensure their implementation across segment and subsystem hardware and software.
Perform FDIR analyses to identify failure scenarios, fault propagation paths, detection mechanisms, and recovery strategies.
Support RAMS and safety activities by providing FDIR inputs and ensuring consistency between fault management and mission reliability objectives.
Contribute to spacecraft, avionics, and software architecture definition to ensure effective fault management implementation.
Define and execute FDIR verification and validation activities, including test planning, procedure development, execution, and reporting.
Support spacecraft functional validation, system integration, and qualification campaigns. Identify and analyse operational constraints related to fault management and autonomous recovery strategies.
Participate in technical reviews and project milestones. Support mission preparation, commissioning, LEOP, and in-orbit anomaly investigations.
Must Have
5-7 years experience in spacecraft systems engineering, with several of those years working in FDIR design, development and verification.
Experience in satellite engineering domains (eg. Operations, SW, AOCS/GNC etc.)
Excellent sense of responsibility
Structured hands-on work-approach
Highly self-motivated and able to work autonomously
Excellent problem-solving skills
Good interpersonal skills
University degree or equivalent education plus relevant proven work experience in industry
