The posting, as the company wrote it
Before the detail, here's the challenge you'd help us solve.
We build the embodied intelligence that moves real vehicles safely, and the ecosystem a billion machines will run on in the future. Very few people in AI can say this. Every role here, whatever the team, plugs into that.
Here’s what this particular role covers.
🛠️ About our Field Engineering Team
Our Field Engineering team is the operational backbone for Wayve, delivering hands-on technical support to keep our global fleet running smoothly. The team diagnoses and solves complex technical issues, supports mission-critical fleet operations, and serves as a vital communication link between in-country operations, engineering, and product teams. We are responsible for ensuring the safety, reliability, and operational excellence of our vehicles, collaborating closely with both internal and external stakeholders.
🧠 The Role
The Field Engineer is a hands-on technical contributor responsible for diagnosing and resolving vehicle software and hardware issues to keep the fleet operational. You will play a critical role in rapid fault triage, ensuring a 5-minute response time while strictly adhering to safety protocols. Working closely with fellow engineers and global teams, you’ll contribute to seamless operations through effective communication and problem-solving. As part of a newly established function within Fleet Operations, you’ll help refine processes and drive efficiency in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.
🧩 Key Responsibilities
- Perform on-site fault triage and resolution, diagnosing and repairing vehicle software and hardware issues quickly to maintain fleet uptime.
- Follow structured fault diagnosis and repair protocols, ensuring all work is carried out efficiently and in alignment with operational workflows.
- Collaborate with fellow field engineers and cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues effectively.
- Respond rapidly to issues, meeting the 5-minute issue response to keep vehicles operational and our teams feeling adequately supported.
- Maintain clear communication with the Field Engineering Lead, providing updates on ongoing repairs and ensuring smooth handovers across geographical locations.
- Participate in on-call rotations, assisting with technical support and issue resolution across multiple regions as part of a 24/7 global support network.
- Adhere to strict safety and compliance protocols, ensuring all fault triage, diagnosis, and repairs follow the correct procedures and approvals.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts, identifying operational challenges and providing feedback to optimize field engineering support and efficiency.

More about Wayve:
🚀 Wayve is building the leading AI platform for autonomous driving. We are pioneering an end to end AI approach that enables vehicles to learn directly from real world experience, developing the ability to adapt, generalise and improve at scale. Instead of relying on hand coded rules or pre mapped environments, our AI Driver learns to drive by understanding the world around it. The result is technology that navigates complex urban environments with intelligence, precision and natural flow, unlocking meaningful advances in both safety and efficiency. We believe autonomy represents a once in a generation transformation in how people and goods move, comparable to the shift from horses to cars, and from human driven vehicles to intelligent machines.
Our ambition is to make autonomy universal. Wayve’s mapless and hardware agnostic AI platform integrates with global OEM partners, enabling continuous software evolution and unlocking advanced levels of automation from L2 plus through to L4 as our core AI model scales. In a race increasingly defined by intelligence and real world learning, Wayve is taking a distinct approach, building a generalisable driving intelligence that can power any vehicle, anywhere. By combining embodied AI with scalable deployment, we are creating technology that can be shaped to each OEM brand and driver experience, accelerating the transition to a safer, more intelligent future of mobility.
