The posting, as the company wrote it
Ohme is on a mission to accelerate the global transition to clean, affordable energy. We do that by serving as an integrated hardware and software smart-grid platform, focused on the residential EV charging market.
The worlds of energy, transport and artificial intelligence are colliding and Ohme is at the heart of this new era. By using technology and data integrations to connect cars, chargers, people, energy providers and more, Ohme has a powerful platform that puts the consumer at the core.
Ohme has been selling its chargers to consumers since mid 2019 and has had exponential growth since. We are now operating in multiple countries and have partnerships with the likes of VW, Mercedes, Octopus Energy, and other innovative brands.
We are scaling up the business and are building out the team for rapid growth. If you’re interested joining a fast-growing cleantech venture on a data and AI-first journey to speed up the global transition to clean, affordable energy, read on!
We’re hiring a strategic Head of Engineering to lead multiple squads delivering the systems behind Ohme’s smart charging experience. You’ll set technical direction, shape the operating model, and grow leaders. This is a senior leadership role with minimal hands-on coding, focused instead on technical direction, organisational design, and operational excellence across our digital backbone. A core focus is embedding AI capabilities that make charging cheaper, greener, and simpler.
You’ll partner with all facets of Ohme’s ecosystem to turn customer needs into well‑vetted roadmaps, elevate engineering practices, and ship reliably at pace. This role is ideal for a systems‑minded leader who enjoys solving complex real-life problems, fostering alignment, and scaling teams.
Key Responsibilities
Technical strategy & architecture: Own the multi‑year architecture across services including AI/ML lifecycle.
Org & operating model: Define how squads work (charters, decision rights, planning cadence, cross‑squad interfaces) to enable dependable delivery.
Process & practices : Set engineering standards: Agile, CI/CD, automated testing, secure coding, documentation and architectural guardrails.
Reliability & incidents: Run on‑call design, SLIs/SLOs, runbooks and post‑incident reviews; ensure crisp bug escalation and safe, progressive releases.
Product partnership: Challenge and refine requirements with Product to balance ambition, feasibility and architectural integrity.
People & growth: Recruit exceptional talent, design effective onboarding, coach leads, set a motivating team vision, and build an inclusive, high‑accountability culture.
Procurement & tooling: Own the developer‑experience stack and vendor choices to improve velocity and quality.
Business reporting: Provide transparent updates on delivery, risk, quality and strategic progress to senior leadership.
Leadership: Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership as a strategic partner, providing bold ideas, constructive challenge, and operational focus. Shape and influence the broader business strategy through deep technical insight.
Who you are
Confident people leader with 6+ years guiding multiple squads in product environments.
Demonstrable knowledge in cloud/distributed systems ideally in JVM at high-scale, product-first company.
Track record embedding AI/ML in production systems tied to measurable outcomes.
Strong architectural judgement and operational maturity.
Confident challenging requirements and explaining trade‑offs to non‑technical stakeholders.
Exceptional collaborator with cross-functional stakeholders.
Culture‑builder who recruits well, onboards effectively, and motivates through clarity, purpose and growth.
