IP Legal Counsel at Joom

We work as one international team, sharing knowledge and collaborating across countries, businesses, and products. We are looking for an IP Counsel to take full ownership of intellectual property matters across Joom’s marketplace and support IP in other Joom products. This is a hands-on negotiation, enforcement, and advisory role — not a solely portfolio management position. Responsibilities Handle escalated IP infringement claims from rights holders (trademarks, designs, copyright): assess each claim and own the outcome — removal, settlement, or defence Manage pre-litigation and court proceedings in the EU, instructing and working with external counsel Build and maintain IP enforcement workflows together with moderation and product teams; ensure court orders and rights holder demands are implemented on the platform Advise the business on merchant authorisation, assortment risks, and the platform’s intermediary status Manage the group’s IP asset portfolio: identifying, recording, and registering internally created IP (TM, software) where legally or fiscally relevant Review and negotiate commercial agreements (SaaS, NDA, outstaffing) with EU and US counterparties Support privacy matters across Joom products Requirements 4–6 years of hands-on IP experience with a strong focus on rights holder disputes and enforcement Practical understanding of trademark and copyright infringement in the context of merchant-uploaded content, and platform liability Ability to work with the product team - assess, explain, and help mitigate risk Ability to work independently and make judgment calls without ongoing supervision Experience instructing and managing external counsel in contentious proceedings Legal English at a professional level Preferred Working knowledge of GDPR and understanding of data protection compliance is a great plus Degree in private law is a plus Benefits Compensation package: base salary and performance-based bonuses Office-first: flexible hours with the possibility to work remotely 52 days per year, and 22 days of paid annual leave Care & Wellbeing: health insurance (including dental care) for employees and their children, daily meal allowance, and 100% paid sick leave AI-first approach: licenses and access to a wide range of AI tools Team & Growth: collaboration with colleagues across Portugal, Brazil, Latvia and China, with opportunities for promotions, professional training, and English courses Community & Engagement: annual team-building activities, knowledge-sharing workshops, and a strong sense of teamwork Before applying for the above position, please review our Candidate Privacy Notice here .
