Join our fast-paced and passionate team as a Mechanical Engineer 4. As we scale, you will be instrumental in building our foundation from the ground up. This is a dynamic, hands-on role for a self-starter who thrives in a fluid startup environment. You'll have the opportunity to work on cutting edge technologies, work closely with leadership, and develop and implement engineering practices that support our mission and growth. Your key responsibilities are as follows:
Design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of robust, precision opto-mechanical assemblies.
Develop novel laser systems and photonic products for both free space and fiber coupled (single & multimode) outputs.
Perform thermal, structural, and vibration modeling of complex opto-mechanical assemblies.
Design of flexures for precision motion of optical elements.
Engineering analysis to understand how loads and environmental factors affect performance.
Design and setup optical metrology and perform engineering tests and design of experiments.
Work independently and in a team while over communicating with the manager, project engineer and the teammates. Will mentor junior engineers.
Execute complex engineering tasks involving planning, preparation, data/information collection and analysis and decision-making in a process involving peer reviews and documentation of the results.
Use tenacity, patience, self-discipline and passion for excellence to assure accuracy of execution schedule, data quality/integrity, conformance to company best practices, clarity in communication and documentation.
Use every opportunity to grow competency thru mentorship, curiosity, communication, exposure and initiative.

Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Physics, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, ideally within a startup or technology company.
Skills:
Extensive expertise in various mechanical engineering topics and a solid grasp of the conventional mechanical engineering curriculum.
In-depth knowledge of material properties, manufacturing processes including CNC milling, CNC turning, sheet metal work, injection molding, laser cutting, water jet cutting, and 3D printing (for both metal and plastic).
Thorough comprehension of design principles for photonic assembly techniques such as die bonding, vacuum reflow soldering, wire bonding, and the use of adhesives.
Strong foundational knowledge of structural theory encompassing static analysis, modal analysis, random vibration, and shock response.
Deep insight into fluid mechanics and heat transfer principles, including conduction, convection, and radiation.
Proven track record of successfully completing engineering tasks utilizing mechanical CAD software (SolidWorks preferred), quantitative analysis and programming tools (such as Python), instrumentation and measurement techniques, component fabrication or procurement, systems integration and testing, as well as data collection, analysis (using ANSYS Workbench), and documentation.
Startup Mindset:
You're creative, flexible, and eager to wear multiple hats.
You're passionate about building systems from the ground up and comfortable with ambiguity and change.
