About the Role:
The Phone Repair Technician is to ensure that returned or repossessed phones are restored to full functionality quickly and reliably. The role involves diagnosing technical issues, performing component-level repairs, and carrying out quality control functions. You will handle both hardware and software-related problems, from replacing broken screens and batteries to troubleshooting operating system errors and connectivity issues.
What you would be expected to do
Perform functional tests to triage damaged devices and diagnose failures
Run diagnostic software/hardware checks on incoming devices (battery health, display, cameras, speakers/mic, sensors, buttons, charging port, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/cellular)
Sort and route devices by fault category and repair complexity (e.g., cosmetic-only, component swap, software issue)
Flag devices that fall outside repair scope or are beyond economical repair (BER)
Disassemble, test, and replace defective components
Safely disassemble devices using precision tools (spudgers, precision screwdrivers, heat guns/plates, suction tools) without damaging surrounding components
Isolate faulty parts through component-level testing (multimeter checks, continuity tests, swap testing)
Replace defective parts screens, batteries, cameras, charging ports, speakers, buttons with OEM approved components
Test and reclaim individual components and external housings
Evaluate removed components (screens, batteries, cameras, small parts) for reuse potential
Clean, refurbish, and re-certify housings, frames, and back covers for reuse where cosmetically and structurally acceptable
Segregate reclaimed parts into inventory, and route non-reusable parts to scrap/recycling per policy
Maintain accurate records of parts harvested vs. parts scrapped
Reassemble complete devices, following predetermined work instructions
Follow model-specific SOPs/work instructions for reassembly sequence, torque specs, and adhesive/seal application
Apply correct adhesives, gaskets, and shielding to maintain water/dust resistance ratings where applicable
Verify that all components are fully seated before closing the housing.
Ensure ESD-safe handling practices are followed throughout
Perform full functional, cosmetic, and RF testing
Run complete post-repair diagnostics covering all functional systems (touch, display, audio, camera, sensors, battery charging/discharge)
Conduct RF testing (cellular signal, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS) to confirm connectivity performance meets spec
Inspect and grade cosmetic condition (housing, screen, ports) against company grading standards
Document test results and assign final pass/fail/grade status before device moves to the warehouse
Identify potential areas for improvement of internal processes and procedures
Flag recurring defects, part failure patterns, or workflow bottlenecks to team lead/supervisor
Suggest improvements to work instructions, tooling, or test procedures based on hands-on findings
Participate in root-cause discussions when rework or return rates spike
Contribute to training/documentation updates as processes evolve
Manage inventory of spares and finished goods
Log spare parts consumption in SAP at point of use (screens, batteries, cameras, connectors, etc.), linking each transaction to the correct device/work order
Post finished goods (repaired/refurbished units) into SAP upon completion, with correct material code, grade, and storage location
Process goods receipts for incoming spare parts and goods issues for scrapped/defective parts
Participate in scheduled cycle counts and full stock takes, reconciling physical counts against SAP records before sign-off
Investigate and correct stock discrepancies between SAP records and physical bin counts
Monitor spare parts stock levels against min/max thresholds and raise replenishment/purchase requests in good time to avoid stock-outs
Maintain FIFO/bin discipline and flag slow-moving, obsolete, or shortage-risk parts to the supervisor
You might be a strong candidate if you have
Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, major in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field
2+ years’ direct experience in cell phone or other electronic device repair (mandatory)
Experienced using precision tools and technology
Have software flashing and RF test experience (preferred)
Are a good team player with excellent time management
Have high integrity and strong work ethic
