The posting, as the company wrote it
Our mission at Asimov is to advance humanity's ability to design living systems, enabling biotechnologies with outsized benefit to society. We're developing a mammalian synthetic biology platform––from cells to software––to enable the design and manufacture of next-generation therapeutics.
We are seeking a Scientist to join our Lentiviral Vector Cell Line Development team in Boston, MA. The ideal candidate has a proven track record developing lentiviral vector (LV) packaging and stable producer cell lines in an industry setting. In this role, you will play a central part in engineering stable producer cell lines for LV therapeutics while driving upstream process optimization and scale-up. This is a unique opportunity to work at a nimble, forward-thinking synthetic biology startup and help build the future of biological engineering.
About the Role:
- Perform Lentiviral vector stable producer cell line development processes including transfection, pool generation, cloning, characterization, and cell banking using state-of-the-art equipment.
- Perform assays to assess quantity, potency and infectivity of lentiviral vector preparations.
- Support innovation through development of novel workflows and applications.
- Support research projects to develop viral vector therapeutics with enhanced quality attributes such as infectivity, potency and/or cell targeting.
- Work effectively as part of a cross-functional team in support of the LV CLD platform and in collaboration with Synthetic Biology and Process Development teams.
- Contribute to process development efforts, including scale-up and characterization across Ambr15, Ambr250, and benchtop systems, as well as LV analytical assay development.
- Design experiments, analyze data, troubleshoot, and maintain detailed records.
- Represent LV CLD on project teams, making decisions for cell line development activities and effectively communicating results, progress and plans.
About You:
- You have a PhD in Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related field with 0-2 years of hands-on industry experience with Lentiviral vector production and cell line development in support of gene therapies; alternatively, a MS with 3-4 years or Bachelors with 6-8 years of this type of experience.
- Extensive experience performing viral transductions, including T-cell transduction assay, flow cytometry, and quantitative gene expression analyses (ddPCR or qPCR).
- Experience with Ambr15, Ambr250, and/or benchtop scale viral vector bioreactor processes.
- Experience with downstream purification of Lentiviral vectors, viral genome engineering, and/or host cell genome engineering related to virus production or producer cell line technologies is highly desired.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
We're fueled by a vision to transform biological engineering into a fully-fledged engineering discipline. Should you join our team, you will grow with a constantly evolving organization and push the frontiers of synthetic biology. Company culture is key to Asimov, and ours is a culture of recombination; we believe that our mission can only be achieved by bringing together a diverse team with a mixture of backgrounds and perspectives.
