You'll know how money moves in Japan, from traditional channels to newer ones, and you'll turn that into tangible outcomes for our clients. You'll be a hands-on individual contributor in a flat, agile team, working with Kraken's engineers and the client's teams. Our clients are large, established Japanese utilities with legacy systems and sometimes limited payments expertise. You’ll be looked at by our teams, and the clients, as an expert and a leader. Payments are only part of the picture. You'll also be in conversations about debt management and the wider process of collecting money from customers, both those in arrears and those who pay on time. 🚀 WHAT YOU'LL OWN - Leading payments implementations from discovery to go-live and beyond - Understanding clients’ legacy systems and desired payments outcomes, and turning them into practical requirements and realistic plans - Balancing operational, commercial and technical pressures to deliver the right solution for the client and for Kraken - Recommending the right payment channels, integrations and reconciliation approach - Advising on collections and debt management alongside payments - Coaching colleagues on payments 🧠 WHAT YOU'LL BRING Essential - Led payments implementations end to end, as the driver rather not just a team member - Expert knowledge of payments in Japan, from traditional channels (e.g. VAN, bank transfer) to newer providers (e.g. Stripe, Adyen, GMO) - Background in a technology or software environment - Ability to turn legacy systems and business problems into clear requirements - Comfortable discussing debt management and collections with clients - Experience explaining payments clearly to non-technical clients - Credible in front of senior stakeholders - Fluent Japanese and business level of English - Willing to travel Helpful - Utilities, energy or recurring-billing experience No Kraken experience needed.
