About Us
Fieldguide is establishing a new state of trust for global commerce and capital markets through automating and streamlining the work of assurance and audit practitioners specifically within cybersecurity, privacy, and financial audit. Put simply, we build software for the people who enable trust between businesses.
We’re based in San Francisco, CA, but built as a remote-first company that enables you to do your best work from anywhere. We’re backed by top investors including Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, Bessemer Venture Partners, 8VC, Floodgate, Y Combinator, DNX Ventures, Global Founders Capital, Justin Kan, Elad Gil, and more.
We value diversity — in backgrounds and in experiences. We need people from all backgrounds and walks of life to help build the future of audit and advisory. Fieldguide’s team is inclusive, driven, humble and supportive. We are deliberate and self-reflective about the kind of team and culture that we are building, seeking teammates that are not only strong in their own aptitudes but care deeply about supporting each other’s growth.
As an early-stage startup employee, you’ll have the opportunity to build out the future of business trust. We make audit practitioners’ lives easier by bringing together up to 50% of their work and giving them better work-life balance. If you share our values and enthusiasm for building a great culture and product, you will find a home at Fieldguide.
About the Role
As an Infrastructure Engineer at Fieldguide, you'll own critical infrastructure decisions, build platforms that other teams rely on, and bring a level of rigor and reliability that makes the whole organization move with more confidence. In a product built around trust and compliance, the quality of our infrastructure isn't just an engineering concern, but also core to what we promise our customers.
Our engineering hub is located in San Francisco. This role is open to remote candidates anywhere in the US; Bay Area-based employees will work in a hybrid setting.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and maintain core platform infrastructure that supports scalable, reliable, and secure services across engineering teams.
- Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) to keep environments consistent and reliable.
- Build reusable platforms, abstractions, and AI-enabled tooling that raise the baseline for engineering teams.
- Monitor and improve reliability, performance, and cost efficiency through metrics, logging, and alerting (e.g., Datadog, CloudWatch).
- Implement security and compliance practices for identity management, network segmentation, secrets handling, and vulnerability management.
- Participate in incident response and postmortems, contributing to root cause analysis.
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
- Document infrastructure design, architecture decisions, and operational procedures.
Who You Are (all levels)
- Hands-on experience building cloud solutions on multiple AWS services, provisioned with Terraform and the AWS CLI/API.
- Experience designing monitoring, alerting, and log aggregation with tools like Datadog and CloudWatch (or New Relic, Prometheus/Grafana).
- A solid understanding of SQL and NoSQL data systems.
- Experience in security and regulatory compliance environments (SOC 2, PCI-DSS, HIPAA).
- Comfort with on-call support for 24/7 availability.
- Strong communication and organization, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Higher-Level Responsibilities
At the Senior level, you may:
- Own major architectural decisions and the long-term technical direction of Fieldguide’s infrastructure.
- Lead incident response and postmortems, driving structural, long-term fixes.
- Mentor and coach engineers and tech leads, building a culture of reliability and automation.
- Design systems and processes that make engineering teams measurably faster.
- Communicate technical strategy clearly to managers and executives.
At the Staff level, you may:
- Drive company-level infrastructure initiatives and influence cross-team architecture.
- Set and champion standards for scalability, security, reliability, and cost across engineering.
- Partner with engineering and product leadership on long-term infrastructure and platform strategy.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on security and compliance posture, including audit readiness, to leaders across Engineering, Product, and Design.
- Represent Fieldguide externally through writing, speaking, and open-source contributions.
