Job Title: Software Engineering Manager - Energy Retail Location: (including hybrid): Melbourne, Australia Salary: $180,000 - $200,000 + Superannuation Reporting To: Head of Engineering Kaluza reimagines energy to bring net-zero within everyone’s reach. Our goal is to build a self-sufficient and empowered team here on the ground in Australia. We’re well on our way, but until we get there we still have some reliances on our UK team. Being comfortable working flexibly for a portion of your working week to cover time zones is required. Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working? You'll be joining the Kaluza Technology community — a large team of both data-led and product-focused Software and Production Engineers, pushing the boundaries of technology and working at an extraordinary scale. You'll be working on Kaluza's Energy Retail platform — a SaaS technology platform that aims to revolutionise the operating platforms for energy retailers globally. Built with scale and technical quality in mind, it is the foundation for decarbonisation efforts by Kaluza's customers. Our engineering teams have a high sense of ownership and support their critical services both in and out of normal working hours. After hours support is assigned according to a paid roster. What will I be doing? People Leadership & Team Development Manage the professional development of engineers through active mentoring, training, and career coaching Build, manage and lead multiple high-performing engineering teams in an agile environment Shape team ceremonies, drive good agile practices, and evolve how teams collaborate and deliver Act as a natural mentor — sharing knowledge, offering guidance in code reviews and pairing sessions, and helping others grow Technical Leadership & Architecture Serve as a credible technical leader with hands-on involvement in architectural decision-making and trade-off analyses Facilitate technical design across the full development lifecycle: from architectural design and rapid prototyping through to deployment and operational monitoring Champion engineering best practices including test automation, continuous delivery, and modern agile practices — and drive adoption across teams Coach your team to build and maintain scalable, resilient, and observable systems in production environments Maintain and improve service reliability and performance, and participate in the on-call support rota to triage platform issues and respond to incidents Strategy & Platform Direction Create and deliver against the technical strategy for your team in partnership with other engineering leaders Work within a team of senior leaders responsible for designing and evolving platform capabilities Highlight client-requested features and emerging trends to product and engineering teams to help shape the global platform Client & Stakeholder Engagement Provide solution expertise to guide development activities performed by our clients, third-party partners, and other Kaluza teams Work across the forward deployed engineering function to ensure Kaluza engineering teams have the necessary understanding of clients' technology ecosystems and integration architecture Participate in the resolution of incidents, including providing guidance to the response team based on client-specific considerations About You Ideally you'll have/be: Demonstrated domain expertise in energy retail, whether specialised in a particular area or across the end-to-end customer lifecycle Proven experience in software engineering leadership with a strong, hands-on technical foundation Experienced in building scalable, resilient, and observable production systems A track record of building, managing and leading multiple engineering teams in an agile environment Experienced across the full development lifecycle: technical discovery, architectural design, prototyping, delivery, and operational monitoring A strong collaborator who thrives in team environments and enjoys working closely with others to deliver impactful features An advocate for test automation, continuous delivery, and modern agile practices — and keen to help others adopt them Motivated by owning products end-to-end — from shaping the early technical direction through to iterating based on real-world feedback Well-versed in modern engineering practices, continuous delivery principles, and optimising high-performance applications Curious and growth-oriented — always looking to deepen your expertise or explore new areas A bias to action and a 'can do' approach to problem solving in the face of uncertainty Familiarity with supporting clients in high-level solution design decisions and throughout complex integrations and migrations Kaluza Values Here at Kaluza we have five core values that guide us as a business: Play to win, Solve the real problem, Build trust every day, Own the outcome, Go further together From us you’ll get Currently, from day one, you will get: Progressive leave policies - including leave dedicated to the moments that matter to you the most Annual discretionary bonus Dedicated personal learning and home office budgets Flexible working — 3 days in our CBD Melbourne (WeWork) office 26 days holiday Novated Leasing Purchase Leave We want the best people We’re keen to meet people from all walks of life — our view is that the more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.
