Sneak preview of your future tasks
The role contributes to project-based vehicle software development in the multimedia and video domain. Its contribution is as a senior technical engineering role within the project structure, with responsibility for implementing, integrating, debugging, and validating video-related services and components. A concrete project context is the MP-CPU Video Service for i4 LiveGuard/PCD, where the role supports the technical delivery of video reception, storage, management, and streaming functionality
Key Responsibilities
Multimedia and video software development: Design, develop, and maintain video-related software components and backend services across QNX, Android, and Linux-based vehicle software environments. Good performance means robust, maintainable implementation that fits the system architecture and supports reliable in-vehicle video functionality.
Cross-subsystem integration: Integrate interfaces between video services, platform components, Android IVI applications, IDC, security concepts, and surrounding system architecture. The role does not implement functionality inside IDC, but is accountable for ensuring that its own components interact correctly with IDC and other adjacent subsystems and interface partners.
Video streaming, storage, and service interfaces: Develop and maintain functionality for video ingestion, segmented MP4/fMP4 storage, HTTP/DASH streaming, REST APIs, playlist and manifest handling, metadata, thumbnails, retrieval, deletion, cleanup, and retention logic. Good output is a service that handles video data consistently, securely, and efficiently within the available system resources.
Debugging, performance analysis, and optimisation: Analyse issues in multimedia pipelines, service logic, storage handling, streaming behaviour, and target-hardware performance. The role is accountable for identifying root causes, proposing technical solutions, and improving reliability, resource usage, and runtime behaviour.
Testing, validation support, and technical collaboration: Support unit, integration, component-level, and target-hardware testing by providing technical analysis, fixes, implementation support, and mock or interim interface capabilities where needed to enable development and validation before full subsystem availability. The role collaborates with Android IVI, interface partners, security, platform, validation, and system architecture teams to resolve issues and align technical solutions.
Your Profile
Qualifications
Essential education and experience: The role requires strong professional experience in software development for embedded or resource-constrained systems, with solid hands-on implementation capability in C++. A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a comparable qualification is beneficial, but the key requirement is proven ability to deliver complex multimedia or video-related software components in an automotive or similarly demanding technical environment.
Required technical knowledge: The role requires strong expertise in multimedia and video technologies, including video pipelines, camera or video-related components, GStreamer or comparable multimedia frameworks, MPEG-DASH, HTTP streaming, MP4/fMP4 container formats, segmented video storage, manifests, playlists, thumbnails, metadata handling, and performance-sensitive implementation on target hardware.
Platform and subsystem knowledge: The role requires good knowledge of QNX and RichOS environments and the ability to work across subsystem boundaries involving QNX, Android, and Linux-based vehicle software environments. Experience with Android IVI systems, platform integration, security concepts, authentication or token-based access, and adjacent subsystem interfaces is important for being effective in the role.
Service implementation, APIs, and testing: The role requires experience with backend service implementation, REST API design, storage management, file systems, cleanup and retention logic, unit testing, integration testing, component-level testing, debugging, root-cause analysis, and performance analysis. The person must be able to work independently on implementation while aligning technical decisions with Product Owners, architects, validation, platform, security, and adjacent subsystem stakeholders.
Working style, communication, and nice-to-haves: The role requires strong problem-solving skills, structured technical analysis, clear communication, ownership, adaptability, and the ability to work with cross-functional teams in a dynamic automotive environment. Nice-to-haves include experience with Android Automotive OS, ExoPlayer-based playback, automotive infotainment or connected vehicle platforms, Token Master or similar security concepts, CI/CD pipelines, automated validation frameworks, and vehicle-level testing or debugging on target hardware.
