About the Job:
We are looking for a senior full-stack developer with strong engineering skills, sound UI/UX judgment, and hands-on experience with AI. You will build AI-powered product features as well as use AI tools in your own development work. At NedFox, we develop RetailVista: an enterprise-grade retail platform covering POS, inventory, finance, omnichannel, logistics, and more. We serve both smaller retailers and complex enterprise customers.
We are a product company, not a bespoke development agency. Your work should add reusable capabilities to RetailVista, with clear workflows and code the team can maintain. Our goal is for agentic products and services to generate 10% of annual recurring revenue (ARR). You will play a hands-on role in building capabilities that customers are willing to pay for.
What you will do
Own features from problem to production. Clarify the underlying need, challenge incomplete requirements, propose a practical solution, and take it through implementation, testing, release, and follow-up.
Develop across the full stack. Build and improve backend services, APIs, data models, and user interfaces, with attention to security, performance, data integrity, and maintainability.
Make complex workflows intuitive. Translate sophisticated retail processes into clear, efficient interfaces. Think beyond individual screens to the complete user journey.
Build AI-powered features. Develop agents that use RetailVista data and APIs to complete business tasks.
Work with product and commercial colleagues on customer value, adoption, usage metering, and running costs.
Use AI to improve delivery. Apply AI-assisted and agentic workflows to investigation, prototyping, development, refactoring, testing, and documentation. Share approaches that genuinely improve team productivity and quality.
Strengthen the product and the team. Improve established code, contribute useful code reviews, and share knowledge. Work closely with colleagues in development, support, and implementation.
Requirements
Microsoft-stack and full-stack capability (essential):
Strong affinity with the Microsoft development ecosystem, particularly C#/.NET and SQL Server.
Substantial experience delivering and maintaining production software, with solid command of backend development, APIs, and relational databases.
Comfortable with JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and a modern frontend framework, choosing maintainable solutions and able to explain architectural trade-offs.
Able to improve established systems as well as build new ones, and to explain when modernisation is worth the investment.
AI-assisted development:
Actively uses AI development tools, breaks work into well-defined tasks, provides useful context, guides an agent, and critically evaluates its output.
Reviews and tests AI-generated code, can explain how it works, and spots incorrect assumptions, security issues, and unnecessary complexity.
Handles source code, credentials, and customer information responsibly when using AI tools.
AI product engineering:
Hands-on experience building AI-powered applications and connecting models to business data, tools, and APIs.
Understands where an agent is useful and where conventional software is more dependable.
Designs for permissions, tenant isolation, usage limits, and audit trails, with human approval where needed, and accounts for model cost and response time in feature viability.
UI/UX judgment:
Turns a requirement into a coherent interface without every interaction specified in advance.
Attentive to visual hierarchy, consistency, accessibility, responsiveness, sensible defaults, clear
feedback, validation, and well-designed loading, empty, and error states.
Validation and verification:
Validates requirements, assumptions, and acceptance criteria before building, inspects and tests during development, and verifies actual behaviour including edge cases, permissions, failure scenarios, and regression risks before calling work finished.
For AI features, verifies the resulting actions and data changes, not just the model’s response.
Ways of working:
Organises own work and moves problems forward without constant direction; knows when to decide, when to involve a colleague, and when to escalate.
Communicates clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues, disagrees constructively, receives feedback without defensiveness, and shares knowledge rather than becoming a bottleneck.
Valuable additional experience: retail, ERP, POS, or other business-critical software; automated testing; CI/CD; incremental modernisation; or introducing AI development practices into a team.
